Xbox Live Arcade has come a long way since launching and Battlefield 1943 is proof that it’s capable of offering so much more than the 2-D games that arrived in the early days. (more…)

Call of Duty: The Civil War?

As we await the impending arrivals of blockbuster games such as Halo 3: ODST and Modern Warfare 2, many of us have been occupying ourselves with Techland’s Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, which is arguably one of the best Western games seen to date.

While trudging through Bound in Blood, the thought of a Call of Duty game based on the Civil War has crossed my mind, mainly because of the opening levels and some of the themes that the game explores.

For most followers of the Call of Duty series, the modern games currently represent the preferred format and as such, MW2 will be one of the most sought after titles of this year upon its release.

In regards to subsequent titles after MW2, it appears that Treyarch’s next stab at the franchise may center on the Vietnam War with possible espionage missions based on The Cold War era, and I have previously suggested that Future Warfare would be received well, should it be the decided direction when the series inevitably shifts gears again.

But what about the Civil War? Would this be a viable course for the franchise at some point in the future? (more…)

In the upcoming cooperative shooter, Army of Two: The 40th Day, players will be faced with moral dilemmas and their choices will not only influence gameplay, but affect the direction of the storyline as well.

“These new morality choices are an innovative new feature that we believe will give a new layer to the cooperative experience in the game,” said Alex Hutchinson, Creative Director EA Montreal.

EA has recently announced that renowned comic book artists Chris Bachalo and Jock have contributed illustrations to demonstrate the impact of these “morality moments.” (more…)

Take a Swing with Bionic Commando

Bionic Commando has been available on the Xbox 360 and PS3 since May and I’m currently in the midst of playing through this game for the second time. I have been on the fence about whether or not I should discuss this game here since it’s technically categorized as an action/platforming game. Over-the-shoulder shooting mechanisms are offered, though the game centers primarily on its swinging and platforming components. As such, I originally planned on skipping Bionic Commando entirely since I’m generally not fond of platformers. (more…)

gears-of-war-best-quotes

In the Gears of War games, civilization has been decimated by the Locust Horde and small faction of elite soldiers are engaged in a desperate battle to prevent the extinction of the dwindling human race.

It’s hardly an uplifting premise.

Fortunately, a little levity to this miserable situation is provided courtesy of the vast assortment of comical, entertaining and often cheesy lines that are consistently delivered by Marcus and company. Here is a look at some of the best: (more…)

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood Reviewed

call-of-juarez-bound-in-blood

CoJ: Bound in Blood is a prequel to the original (poorly made) Call of Juarez from 2007. You take on the roles of Ray and Thomas McCall, who are American Civil War deserters. It’s really a story of three brothers and their quest for mythical treasure. The unplayable brother, a preacher, constantly harasses you for being of low moral fiber, and rightly so.

Ray and Thomas have their own set of moral codes, and don’t care who they kill to reach their goals. (more…)

GoldenEye Tribute

goldeneeye-video

GameTrailers.com has put together a video tribute on the classic N64 FPS, GoldenEye 007. It could be argued that GoldenEye catalyzed the popularizing of console first person shooters, while the addicting multiplayer modes were extremely influential.

The video offers a variety of facts about the game that you’re likely already aware of, but the trip down memory lane courtesy of the clips and music playing in the background is worthwhile. Considering the game’s age and the significant strides that have been made in the genre over the years, it still holds up fairly well.
