Tomorrow in North America, that is. If you happen to reside in another sector of the globe, you’ll have to wait a few more days before you’ll be able to get your hands on this prequel to Techland’s Western-themed FPS, Call of Juarez, for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. (more…)
Blue Omega’s Damnation is an ambitious title; one that blends acrobatics, verticality, massive environments and shooting mechanics in an alternate history where Steampunk merges with the Old West. Damnation aims high with an objective to change the landscape of the shooter genre forever. It has been the target of a fairly negative reception overall, but has Damnation been unjustly gunned down by the gaming world?
In Damnation, America is presented as a place of utter melancholy and a society left in shambles from war. As Hamilton Rourke, you are part of a resistance known as the Peacekeepers, who are in the midst of a chaotic struggle against Prescott Standard Industries, a corporation lead by a militant industrialist attempting to assert complete control over the war-torn nation. Adding to the gloomy premise of battling in the wastelands known as Damnation is Rourke’s quest to locate his missing fiancé.
Like many games today, Damnation is powered by the Unreal Engine. Its overall appearance can be described as “hit and miss,” though. Distant landscapes are striking, and gazing into the horizon of the massive environments can often reveal picturesque vistas. However, when certain textures are inspected closer, (more…)

As it turns out, when I put together my Summer of Shooters article, which was a preview of high profile shooting games that we can occupy ourselves with this summer, I left out Wolfenstein – the upcoming Activision-published FPS that will arrive on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
A game that carries on the namesake of Wolfenstein 3D, which paved the way for a genre that would become one of the industry’s most popular certainly shouldn’t go overlooked. So here is a closer look at it: (more…)

While the recently released box art for Modern Warfare 2 isn’t the final design, a number of people have expressed their discontentment with its appearance.
Personally, I don’t mind the temporary box art. But I felt that in the case of Modern Warfare 2, all that’s needed, really, is a black background with the logo prominently displayed.
I threw something together based on that concept – you can take a look at it here. An Xbox 360 cover was used, but it wasn’t selected with the intention of slighting other platforms.
Now, anyone with some basic photo editing abilities could do this – I’m certainly not trying to pass this off as a skillfully crafted work of art.
Still, I think it would be a clean, effective cover that allows the name to speak for itself. (more…)

Halo 3: ODST will hit retail shelves on September 22, but if you pre-order the game now from participating retailers, you’ll receive a token to unlock UNSC hero Sgt. Johnson as a playable character in the Firefight Mode.
Firefight is a cooperative multiplayer mode where you and your squad of fellow ODST’s will battle waves of Covenant enemies. As you progress, the onslaught of foes will become more challenging.
This mode essentially sounds like an ODST version of Horde from Gears of War 2 and should provide a decent amount of fun.

It’s probably been a while since most Call of Duty players have dusted off their copy of Infinity Ward’s second installment in this renowned franchise. Since CoD4: Modern Warfare arrived, it’s been the main remedy for alleviating my withdrawal symptoms that occur when I haven’t had a Call of Duty fix for a while. Additionally, I’ve spent a decent amount of time with World at War, which in my opinion, was a fairly solid World War Two shooter and a good addition to the franchise.
Anyway, the point I’m getting to here is that I haven’t touched Call of Duty 2 much since the aforementioned games arrived, but recently took it for another spin to see how it would hold up in comparison to the fresher titles. (more…)
Sega and High Voltage recently stated that The Conduit, their upcoming sci-fi first person shooter for the Wii, has gone gold. It will ship to North America on June 23.

Taking place in the near future, The Conduit features an intense campaign riddled with conspiracies that will have you battling against a mysterious alien race that has invaded Washington, DC.
Once you’ve finished defending the city from its alien “guests,” the frenzy can be continued online courtesy of the 13 multiplayer modes that accommodate up to 12 players.
Hopefully The Conduit lives up to the hype and delivers a solid time for Wii owners who have been anxiously awaiting its arrival.
